Risotto update
The cauliflower risotto was heavenly!
I just wish I had taken a picture. When I make it again I promise to take photos.
All the ingredients were organic. Apart from the taste I don't want my precious one eating any antibiotics, pesticides etc.
I fried two sliced leeks and four chopped cloves or garlic until soft. I added a glassful of arborio rice to the pot, added a couple of generous glasses of white wine, 1/2 pint of Marigold vegetable bouillion, salt and pepper, and one chopped, steamed cauliflower to the pot. The whole thing was put in the oven (170 degrees) for about an hour, stirring occasionally and adding more water if it needed it. Once cooked, add a handful of grated Parmesan and a dribble of white truffle oil. Serve with a roasted guinea fowl.
God, it was delicious!

My tastebuds have flipped
180pxcitrus_grandis__honey_white I am craving sour foods - and the more bitter the better.
Not content with salt and vinegar crisps or sour cherry cola bottle sweets, I have graduated on to the pomelo. I discovered this fruit at my local Waitrose supermarket. It tastes like a mild grapefruit. But I'm not content with the fruit - I like licking the rind - which is as bitter as you can imagine.

It's official - I'm pregnant
I passed the 12-week mark on Saturday when the risk of miscarriage drops dramatically.
The news from my nuchal fold scan looked good. Women over 35 in my area are offered them (along with a blood test) to detect the odds of having a baby with Down's syndrome. Once you get the results of both, you can decide to have an amniocentesis if you want a definitive answer.
The sonographer takes measurements of fluid in the baby's neck. He said everything looked fine - which is good enough for me. In the old pre-scan days you wouldn't have found out anything until the baby was born.
Told my colleagues the news when I got to work that afternoon. Its a relief that the secret is out, although some people has twigged. The fact that I used to spend so much time in the toilet or nodding off; and declining visits to the pub gave the game away.
MIL is dying to tell the rest of the family, so Rob will tell her this weekend.
I definitely have a tummy bulge. I've only put on 1kg in three months, so it can't be just from eating for two! Ordinary trousers feel rather tight. I found a pair of black maternity trousers from Dorothy Perkins. Although they are still a little loose I can't tell you how comfortable they feel! I'll buy more maternity gear in New York.

Cravings of the week
Califlower - I'm going to create a recipe for baked califlowe and chicken risotto with truffle oil at the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes...
Salt and vinegar flavoured snacks - especially Hula Hoops.

It's not cool to drool
4 september
the excess saliva has returned - I guess this means that it's all good in there. I still get jittery about the scan on Friday and I have to avert my eyes whenever the sonographer starts to move her ultrasound sensor.
My mum had this problem during her pregnancies. She had to spit into a jug that she carried in her car.
Fortunately I haven't been sick yet. but I think i'll put some empty carrier bags in my car just in case.
On my way home from work last night it got so bad that I had to keep spitting out of my car window. A cabbie watched me in disgust. I know it looked vile, but it was either that or swallow it and vomit all the way through Knightsbridge.
Stopped off at Sainsbury's to get some cash and pick up some cat food. By the time I had made it halfway around the shop I had a mouthful of spit. Yuk.
I have found a temporary cure. Sour sweets such as cherry cola bottles from the pick and mix at Sainsbury's. Doesn't stop the drooling but it makes the saliva easier to swallow.
